Long Delay

Not a moment too soon, considering my boss went crazy when she heard of my resignation and not only copied my entire computer, disabled my network account, changed all the admin passwords and even made my full-time counterpart go from computer to computer to change the local admin passwords.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to take a moment and fill you in on what has been going on with my life. I know it’s been a while since my last post, but a lot of this have happened.

First and foremost, the semester from hell has finally ended, and with a BANG! I received Academic Honors with an overall GPA of 3.61 (4.0, 4.0, 3.9, 3.3, 3.0). Winter was a really busy semester and I have a lot to show for it. Take a look at my academic projects page and get a feel for the systems I helped create this semester.

Second, I have a new job! After years of dealing with my boss’s inadequate understanding of technology and lack of managerial skills, I no longer have to work for the evil wench at the library and will be starting at my new job next week. Not a moment too soon, considering my boss went crazy when she heard of my resignation and not only copied my entire computer, disabled my network account, changed all the admin passwords and even made my full-time counterpart go from computer to computer to change the local admin passwords. I thought my last day was May 5, but whatever.

Third, I have some new articles in the pipeline including the Mac Mini Car Integration, Using and iPod/iPhone to Remote Control Your Life and my Letter to the Board.

Users of the new Google Talk client for Windows Now have the new and following features:File Transfer With this top requested new feature, you can send unlimited files and folders to your friends through Google Talk.

Well, not really. However, with the pending launch of a new version of Google Talk, it will be soon. Users of the new Google Talk client for Windows Now have the new and following features:

File Transfer With this top requested new feature, you can send unlimited files and folders to your friends through Google Talk. There is no restriction on the file type or size and the peer-to-peer transfer is fast and reliable. Learn more
A small percentage of users (such as those behind restrictive proxies) will not experience the highest level of file transfer speed possible.

Voice mail If a friend isn’t around to answer your call, now you can leave a voice mail. You can even leave voice mail messages for your friends who don’t use Google Talk–they’ll receive an email with the message attached as an audio file. Learn more

Music Status Listening to music while on Google Talk? Now you can let your friends see what you’re listening to by selecting “Show current music track” in your status menu. Your status message will change when your song does! Learn more

For those of you who don’t use Google Talk, I highly recommend it. While similar in functionality to all the other IM clients, Google Talk has some key features that make it stand out as the leader:

  1. Direct Gmal Integration – you can use Google Talk right from the Gmail website. Check it out!
  2. Chat Auto Archiving – because of the direct integration with Gmail, Google Talk can automatically save your chat histories in Gmal for you under the heading Chats. What makes this cool is that it doesn’t matter what computer/device you are accessing Google Talk from, it will get everything. For example, I connect to Google Talk from my desktop at work, home as well as from my Blackberry. The chats are archived from all the devices
  3. No Ads! – That’s right, when you are using the Google Talk client on Windows, there are no Ads anywhere. Yay Google!
  4. Voice Chat – Similar to Skype, Google Talk features an excellent VoIP solution (SIP) for great voice calls.
  5. Easy To Use – With just the options you need, Google Talk is great for nearly all users

So yeah, DOWNLOAD THE NEW GOOGLE TALK!

New Kind of Traffic Signal for Stop Lights

Oakland County, Michigan will be seeing some new left turn traffic lights in the upcoming years. Rather than flashing the red to allow left hand turn motorists to yield and turn, the flashing yellow will indicate that “motorists are allowed to turn left when available gaps in oncoming traffic are present”.

Oakland County, Michigan will be seeing some new left turn traffic lights in the upcoming years. These new lights will feature 4 lights, instead of the current 3 light models. Rather than flashing the red to allow left hand turn motorists to yield and turn, the flashing yellow will indicate that “motorists are allowed to turn left when available gaps in oncoming traffic are present”. Working in Bloomfield Township, I have seen a few intersections that have new funny lights installed, but not hanging and activated. Looks like these are what they are. Guess it’s better, but the stoplight just looks so funny!

Today Apple announced a new partnership with Nike. A new product, called the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, which not only keeps track of your important workout information (Distance Traveled, Time, etc.), there is audible feedback that from the looks of the Nike advertisement is great.

Update: Even more exciting is the “Workouts” tab on the right. Artists are going to be able to make timed workout mixes. How cool!

Cancer Cure? Targeted Virus Compels Cancer Cells to Eat Themselves

This is really a great article taking about a new engineered virus that’s sole purpose is to track down and infect cancer cells. The super good news is that the virus only goes after cells with a particular enzyme, telomerase, which is generally only found in cancer cells.

This is really a great article taking about a new engineered virus that’s sole purpose is to track down and infect cancer cells. While that may sound strange, it’s actually very good news. Once a cancer cell is tracked down and infected, the virus forces the cell to devour themselves in an attempt to reproduce. The super good news is that the virus only goes after cells with a particular enzyme, telomerase, which is generally only found in cancer cells. Yay for research!

Take that RIAA

As I am sure you all know, I am an Apple freak. Now that we are clear on that, it looks like the record labels may finally give up on their quest to get ‘variable pricing’ on the iTunes Music Store. via New York Post

As I am sure you all know, I am an Apple freak. Now that we are clear on that, it looks like the record labels may finally give up on their quest to get ‘variable pricing’ on the iTunes Music Store. Thank you Steve. All Hail the iPod!
