New Kind of Traffic Signal for Stop Lights

Oakland County, Michigan will be seeing some new left turn traffic lights in the upcoming years. Rather than flashing the red to allow left hand turn motorists to yield and turn, the flashing yellow will indicate that “motorists are allowed to turn left when available gaps in oncoming traffic are present”.

Oakland County, Michigan will be seeing some new left turn traffic lights in the upcoming years. These new lights will feature 4 lights, instead of the current 3 light models. Rather than flashing the red to allow left hand turn motorists to yield and turn, the flashing yellow will indicate that “motorists are allowed to turn left when available gaps in oncoming traffic are present”. Working in Bloomfield Township, I have seen a few intersections that have new funny lights installed, but not hanging and activated. Looks like these are what they are. Guess it’s better, but the stoplight just looks so funny!

Port Scan + Comcast Business Server = No No

So this past weekend, I had just finished up doing some work at a client, mostly remotely via Remote Desktop, and I wanted to check to make sure there weren’t any unnecessary ports open to the internet.

So this past weekend, I had just finished up doing some work at a client, mostly remotely via Remote Desktop, and I wanted to check to make sure there weren’t any unnecessary ports open to the internet. So I ran a port scan, saw that only the ports I wanted to be opened were open, and then went to connect back to the server. To my surprise, I couldn’t connect! So I tried another port scan, request timed out. Same results with ping. It wasn’t until I left the IP alone for about 20 minutes that I could connect again. Looks like a cool feature. I tested it on a few Comcast home internet users, but I was able to continue to ping, port scan, and connect. Looks like its a business only feature. Cool eh?
